Project Management in Practice

Beyond the alphabet soup of PRINCE2, MSP, PMBOK, ITIL, Agile

About

I’m Shoaib Ahmed, the Senior Project Manager at Explorer Graphics Limited. I am responsible for programme office excellence, mentoring junior project managers, participating in pre-sales activities, by providing input into RFP and RFI responses, providing project governance expertise to sister companies in the US and India – with specific expertise in Climate Change and Port initiatives.

I am currently facilitating the geospatial support programme for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Agency (CERA), managing a programme of work for several North American ports, helping company executives develop 5 year plan and developing group wide processes to incorporate standard practices from pre-sales to project delivery and support. This blog represents my thoughts on the topic of Project Management and reflections based on day to day learning. I’m hopeful it will serve as source of useful information. Opinions in this blog are entirely my own and in no way is it claimed to represent my employer.

I moved into project management space from a software development background. Having seen a few different approaches that has worked and some that patently didn’t, I started off without recognised qualifications but with my own lessons from projects as my base. I have since completed PRINCE2 Practitioner, ITIL, and MSP Practioner accreditations from APMG. I now wish I had access to some of this material in my early days as a project manager. Hopefully, this will serve to help some others out there. Do not hesitate to comment.
