Project Management in Practice

Beyond the alphabet soup of PRINCE2, MSP, MoP, PMBOK, ITIL, Agile

Welcome to my blog on Project Management. I’m Shoaib Ahmed, the Senior Project Manager at Eagle Technology Group Limited. I am responsible for programme office excellence, participating in pre-sales activities, providing input into RFP and RFI responses. My recent roles included facilitating the geospatial support programme for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Agency (CERA), managing a programme of work for several North American ports, helping company executives develop strategic plans and developing group wide processes to incorporate standard practices from pre-sales to project delivery and support. This blog represents my thoughts on the topic of Project Management and reflections based on day to day learning. I’m hopeful it will serve as source of useful information. Opinions in this blog are entirely my own and in no way claims to represent my employers or clients.

I moved into project management space from a software development background. Having seen a few different approaches that has worked and some that patently didn’t, I started off without recognised qualifications but with my own lessons from projects as my base. I have since completed PRINCE2 Practitioner, ITIL, and MSP Practioner accreditations from APMG and Investment Logic Mapping from Victoria Treasury and Finance. From time to time I have learned the hard way. I want to use this forum to share ideas.

Not all my ideas are necessarily good. I want my opinion challenged. You will find some posts contain quite a bit of heated debate. When you participate, please challenge ideas, and avoid any personal remarks. I moderate comments only for decency, not for opinions.

        Hello the Shoaib,

I’m Alison, a colleague of Jay’s at Knowledge Train. I’m glad you liked our cartoon last time! I was wondering if you’d heard the good news about PRINCE2? The exam board APMG announced this month that the number of exams taken has reached 1 million! This is exciting news for us as a PRINCE2 traininer provider. What are your views on PRINCE2 and it’s immense popularity?!

We’ve developed an infographic to mark the occasion, you can view it here:

Would you like to publish this one on your blog? It’s a hot topic right now, it could get some debate going! I’d love to hear your thoughts, please let me know and I’ll send you the image.

        Best regards,
